Helping Mothers, Saving Babies
DAAC is currently serving 28 women and their children at their Perinatal Day Treatment Program. However, they turn away between 10 and 15 women and their children every month who want and need treatment.
In Sonoma County over 600 women a year are found to test positive for alcohol or other drugs when going into our local hospitals to deliver their babies. All services combined in Sonoma County can only help 120 women each year.
Can you imagine what it would feel like to be a child growing up with a Mother and Grandmother who are both alcoholics and drug abusers. The majority of the women in our Perinatal Program were physically and verbally abused as children and face the challenge of breaking the multi-generational cycle of addiction.
What is astounding is the cost for treatment in the Perinatal Program is only $15,300 compared to the average cost for one child growing up in a drug abusing family in medical, legal & social costs which is $90,000 .....6 times the cost of treatment. Add to this the cost for raising one child with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome at $1.9 million! As you can see, Treatment for Mothers is Prevention for Children.
There is HOPE . . . .
YOU can make a difference in our community and help us save lives.
We are looking for Leadership skills, Time and Talent to help us on this project.
